I didn't say that theres no variation in anime styles, just that as you simplify a face and reduce it to symbols, you sacrifice nuance/detail. but cartoonists can choose to do this consciously for the sake of clarity/recognizability. This is a common thing in all comics and its not a bad thing. its a good thing. too much facial detail in comics can be be both 1. too taxing for the artist 2. distract from the important parts of a message (or muddy a facial expression, for example) Early anime styles were very good at striking a balance between simplicity and facial variation/design between characters. More modern examples of anime seem to be stagnating (see: the entire moeblob genre)
as for your second bullet, I don't know what to tell you anon because I didn't say that at all, and it makes me wonder if you even finished reading before deciding to reply.
as a side note, I think anime style was really at it's peak around the mid 80s
