It's basically a series about anthropomorphic representations of countries.
At first it was focused on WWII but later on we got to explore other time periods and world events. The main characters are Italy (with Hetalia being the combination of Hetare (useless) and Italia), Germany, Japan, America, England, France, China and Russia, basically the axis and allies from WWII.
It started as a webcomic, them got a manga release, and then an anime series.
It is currently being serialized on Shonen Jump Plus online, with two chapters per week.
If you are new to the series, I highly recommend you going for the manga first, the anime series has its moments, but it was hit or miss to me.
I like it because its cute and the characters are likable, plus the world trivia is pretty interesting.
