Imo, the reason why they crack jokes about liking girls in shonen and seinen is that it gives you the atmosphere of an average conversation. These genres are not romance-focused, that's why they often leave the possibilities open. It's doubtful that anyone at all will get a significant romance in BSD because it would distract from the action and the main plot. Some shonen might create canon hetero ships to lure in the shoujou demographic too, but I'm talking about stuff like Naruto here and BSD will never be able to whore out that much. For the same reason - because it's not a show you can sell like 20-season animes - they won't make the mistake of critically narrowing down the viewership by turning it into shonen ai. Tbh, I'm thankful enough for the considerable amount of queerbaiting.
