If you're missing Hirano or Atsushi use 50/50/50/50 for smithing. People always wait for them to drop but they drop pretty sparsely compared to how often you can smith them. I use that recipe every day, three times a day to complete daily missions and I get them both all the time.
When you start getting bigger swords like tachi and oodachi you're gonna wanna use them a lot, but try to get your wakizashi and some tantou to at least level 40. You'll need them for world 6. Also, in world 6, use a lot of attack troops.
Don't let all your maps get infested by KBC. Boss nodes are tempting but try to save at least one map per world without KBC for leveling up weaker swords later on.
