None of this changes the original point other anon said, which was that Gainax / Khara controls what's popular. Kawoshin took off only with the start of the Rebuilds, and Kaworu as a character really started getting popular around 2011-2012. While Kaworu will still be a popular character after Final, the focus will shift to the core pilots. It's only logical.
