>>4045000>I sometimes wonder why Hazbin is such a hit there.If you want an honest answer it comes down to three things mainly,
1. The Japanese LOVE musicals.
2. Hazbin humor is pretty much all swearing, violence and sex jokes which translates perfectly. Shows like Simpsons or Smiling Friend never got an audience in Japan despite how loved they are in other countries because “irony” heavy humor and pop culture references either don’t translate well or they don’t find them funny.
3. The Japanese like Western cartoons that actually look Western and don’t try to directly copy a generic anime style like Avatar or the She Ra reboot. I can’t think of an example of a single western wannabe anime show that did well in Japan while Spongebob and South Park are huge.
Avatar is interesting because it’s huge with diaspora Asians but a lot of Asians who grew up in Asia see as it as cheap orientatilism.
