So inevitably, when I saw him play CIV VI the following day, I had to ask him about turn-based games in general, since I was scared of the conversation slowing down and simply dying otherwise. He said that he wanted to get into some, and that he'd love to play DOS2 with me so we got to playing it soon after.
And well, DOS2 is quite a slow game, with lots of downtime for little jokes and such, and since he was quite inexperienced, it was very cute watching him struggle with the skills and to find his role in the game and so I teased him about it and that was quite the fun dynamic.
So we continued like that for the next few days, and I was feeling like we could be really good friends, but there was something about my past that I wanted to tell him first. I won't go into details here, but it's pretty dark and I didn't want to lie to/hide it from my close friends, so I decided to tell him and leave it up to him how we would continue. As it turned out, being honest was the right choice, as he had had some bad experiences with dishonesty before, and that built a very strong foundation of trust and absolute honesty for us, which is still going strong today.
Anyway, after that we just continued that way, getting more and more comfortable and spending time together daily. Over time lots of cute things developed like sleep calls, nicknames, making time to talk about anything on our mind on any given day completely honestly every single night, stuff like that.
Now, over half a year later, we've met up irl (sadly we're from different countries), we're still being absolutely honest about everything and the feelings are no weaker than on the first day. Of course there's sometimes arguments and we get angry at each other and all that other, less happy stuff that is a part of any relationship. But so far there hasn't been a single time where we didn't talk it out that same evening before going to sleep and that feels honestly amazing.
Well, that's it.
