Some people especially on Twitter were thinking that we'd get exclusively dark skin characters or black people in the new region, but then Tighnari's design was revealed as the first playable character from the region and he's white, and people freaked out. Then they freaked out again when the region's god was revealed and she was a pale forest pixie instead of being brown again. For that reason some artists were drawing Tighnari with brown skin at the start, but that's mostly over now.
People got over it since the region does have plenty of non-white characters including playable ones, and the new content patches have been very well received (especially in comparison to the previous Japanese-inspired region) so no one gives a fuck anymore
