I remember in the dmc4 novel it was described he was shown a "good time" in Fortuna one night. But that still doesn't describe the whole story other than someone second hand knows he fucked a girl.
So everyone tries to scrutinize that line: "That was a long time ago" to try and figure out what happened but we have to remember this line isn't the one Itsuno wanted. It was changed to this after Dan complained that the original line sounded like he fucked and dumped her which he felt was out of character. It's not easy to pick apart a line that was altered so much. Dan and Itsuno have different ideas for her and that line was the compromise. It's vague enough that no one wins or loses, but we also can't tell what the fuck might have happened either. And there is no way of knowing if Itsuno will go with Dan's concept of her or the original one night stand until, hopefully, the next game or VoV gets a sequel (unlikely).

I find Vergil falling in love with a woman hard to imagine but it's less ooc than him being a hoe imo. At least in the first case I can somewhat imagine Vergil's mommy issues clouding his judgement. Who knows if that's going to be adressed again anyway.

Dan has this idea in his head that Vergil's demeanor is only on the surface and on the inside he's this thoughtful, kind, compelling character that's loved and lost. An old soul.
