>>3513392Yeah as someone who used to be kinda into that ship but never ever thought it was going to happen and liked the hetero alternatives well enough that was just disgraceful. I don't even need or always want my ships to be canon. That's what fanfics are for. I'm a crack-loving multishipper.
I just want the characters and story to at least make some damn sense first. Then we can scrabble our ships from whatever canon afterwards. Demolishing my ship was not the problem. Throwing multiple other characters' development and several entire movies and TV shows that I loved under the bus all to get that one No Homo though? Offensive.
Worst thing is, many of them were written by the same two people so there is no "I'm just playing with another creator's toys" excuse here. I pray whatever obligatory hetero love interest Bucky gets in his new series isn't completely awful, and that it's not Sharon because it was bad enough they turned her into a replacement goldfish the first time around. But after how the same writers who originally got the Steve/Peggy romance so right back then, then made it awful just to pray the gay away, I don't trust them not to fuck it up somehow.
Even if it was never actually supposed to be seen as romantic, and I personally don't think it was deliberate bait, it's not that hard to follow up with very simple "I still care about you, my very best friend/brother who I see in a completely platonic sense, I also wish you the best of luck with your very heterosexual relationships in the future". Hell they had at least one film to break the homo vibes part of it down beforehand without running away from them having a friendship at all.
It just makes them look ridiculously insecure. If you need to overcompensate so hard that you do a full 180 on several films' worth of messages just to keep them as far away as possible, you're admitting that yes, they really were fucking gay for each other.
