In the game his sprites are pretty heavily stylized with really thin limbs and huge eyes, but in most of his bonus art the proportions lean more realistic. Sometimes it looks really off (like his new years art) but I actually like this piece quite a bit. Maybe I've just gotten used to seeing him in 2.5D media that this looks more natural now.
