They changed so much, and for nothing better than erasing the "problematic" parts, it is not the same story anymore. The frustration from older fans is that when something gets a remake like this, from now on if you talk about TwtV people assume you mean the newest version. And it's annoying how new fans come in and act like they're the first people ever to enjoy IwtV correctly.
It's nice that they made it explicitly romantic. It sucks that it comes at the expense of other elements of the story. It also sucks that a lot of young people are going to watch it JUST because there's gay stuff in it, claim it is the one true version over all other versions, and then police the fandom to shit because we aren't allowed to like problematic things.
I've already seen people comparing the Louis'. When they only like the new one because he's POC and they get ally points. It's okay to like both, and people who prefer the old one aren't automatically racist. That's why older fans feel the urge to gatekeep.
