>>2961363>>2961366>>2961368I found another of those old depictions of the lay of Theseus and the Minotaur from my youth. Here is the climax of that version.
On came the Minotaur – it caught sight of Theseus, gave a great roar, and rushed straight at him. Theseus, dodging to one side, dashed a handful of dirt into the beast’s eyes. The Minotaur bellowed in pain. It rubbed its eyes, shrieking and confused. It tossed its great head up and down, and turned around and around, feeling with its hands for the wall. It was quite blind. Theseus crept up behind the monster, and slashed his dagger against the back of its legs. Down fell the Minotaur, with a crash and a roar, writhing on its back and waving its hands and clawing at the empty air. Theseus waited for his chance. Eventually the clutching hands slowed from fatigue. And when its great arms were out of position, leaving its broad breast unprotected, Theseus struck. Three times he quickly drove the sharp knife into the heart of the Minotaur. The great body leapt and then lay still. The Minotaur was dead.
