You could try an ocr tool and throw it at deepl. It won't be perfect the translation, but 80-85% about. If you have the novel in digital format, it will be much easier.

It's not uncommon, esp BL doujinka debuting with commercial BL. I still remember my dissapointment when my favorite Mukuhiba doujinka moved on to draw manga adaptation for Shinrei Tantei Yakumo, but it actually got adapted to anime. There are also authors that juggle BL and non-BL titles like Yamashita Tomoko or Arai Niboshiko.

Yeah it’s good. I hope the story is more planned out compared to My Little Inferno but so far I like all the random details in the art. Like the Aunt’s house being a giant mess makes it look like it’s lived in, instead of just a manga background. I think focusing on two characters instead of more than one couple helps too

As someone who works in translation and publishing (not for manga though), translating novels is a gargantuan task compared to comics. They take much longer to translate, and depending on how different the two languages involved are, translating a whole novel can almost be like writing it all over again. Editing and proofreading it are also harder jobs due to the volume of material. Also, because your readers only have text to rely on, doing a good job is much more important. A comic with a mediocre translation can still read decently if the art tells a lot of the story. A novel with a mediocre translation is hard to get through and can be confusing. Finally, (this applies to fan translators only) a comic is faster to get out, easier to share online, and will generally be read by more people, so it's more rewarding to fan translators to work on comics.

Because books are considerably harder to translate. It's much easier to translate short pieces of text with visible context in comics than parse blocks of text and rewrite them into cohesive, readable text in English. It takes a lot of skill that most hobby translators just don't have. Jap-Eng is a very tough direction, even stuff like editing MTL doesn't go well because MTL sucks at context and constantly fucks up sentence subjects, not to mention it lacks any style so even at its best it can only provide grammatically correct but tedious word vomit.

There are almost zero groups translating japanese novels. Most of them consist of extreme novel fans for whom its passion projects but they tend to disappear sooner later. Even based Yes ka no ka translator went on an indefinite hiatus. My boyfriend is a homo translator also disappeared.
It's a shame because there's shitton of great Japanese BL novels

Well, run with the wind is being fan translated, that's something already. Overall I'm not the biggest fan of the official American localizations of japanese titles. The translators treat the readers like idiots who can't understand a reference unless they introduce an american equivalent of it, it goes as far as adding american pop culture references. Only weebs would even touch a japanese VN or LN, so I don't know who the fuck they're doing it for. Often they'd go as far as to push their own interpretation of the characters, make them talk like american teens or change a gay character into a transexual woman.
Does the same thing happen with localizations in other languages?

Generally I think there is less censorship because of social agenda, at least nowadays, of course in the 90' everything was a bit shit. But if they are translating directly from JP you are less likely to run into stuff like that.

In the case of translation I have seen both extreme localization (for more popular media, a bigger public) and nicely done translations (smaller public, more niche). The best translations I have seen overall (for Japanese, Korean and Chinese) are the ones for novels (of award winning authors) and that's been picking up in recent years. In the past, the only way get access to the content was the translation of a translation, direct translations (especially the ones made by experts) were very scarce.
Your target public is going to weight a lot in how much they want the stuff localized.

I got surprised with how much I ended up liking Chicken Heart Serenade. I really liked that the couple actually had some good chemistry going on between them and their dynamics were good. I am incredibly weak to those "I want to love/be loved" when they are done this nicely
There was no unnecessary drama added, the length was perfect and the artstyle was lovely.
Overall, very sweet while remaining mature but not too serious. A nice balance that gives the work a very realistic feeling.

Some guys don't outright know they're gay so they tend to experiment with crossdressing, or some happen to be gay and crossdress from the start. Apparently that's hard for american localizers to comprehend, so upon seeing a dress near a male character they will disregard the actual characterization and writing and the said character will immediately become a trans woman, even if he repeatedly states that he is a gay man.

Different strokes for different folks. It took me a while to finally give it a try and my friends tried to no avail for a while, but now I love me some danmei boys fucking. Chinese BL is lightyears ahead of Japanese BL. My favorite so far has been 2ha but I'm slowly making my way through MXTX and others as well. I'm really excited for the 2ha donghua coming out this year. The casting, budget, and story seems like a huge improvement from CQL.

Imagine a well written story that just happens to have canon gay leads who are interesting characters on their own.
Or course there's a lot of shit and mediocre Chinese BL too, but when it's good it's fucking great.
There are god tier writers among japanese BL manga authors, but overall japanese BL is mostly romance driven stories that are restricted by their format: one volume stories, in the case the stories do get sequels they are about dealing with third parties and misunderstandings. We haven't had something like Tokyo Babylon and X since clamp became sellouts who backtracked on every homo couple after 2010.
As for the novels, better writers are discouraged from having gay romance in their novels. Kaze ga tsuyoku author wanted the story to be a BL but thanks to her editor the gay romance was removed.
Yuu Nagira ( Utsukushii Kare) isn't doing much BL after hitting it big with her heterosexual novels and winning some prestigious awards either.

You should give modern novels a try, there's so much good stuff to ignore. Saye remains one of the best gay coming of age novels I've read.
There are great award winning sci-fi novels like Can Ci Pin and Little Mushroom, the usual serial killers x cops stuff, double agents, corrupt police mysteries, great horror stories with buff crossdressing chads, comedies that feel like shitposting: the novel, coming of age stories, fantasy, wuxia/xianxia by openly gay male authors who can't stop inserting their big dick fetish into the novels, novels that feel very 2000's with rapey chins and all, political intrigues, bald monks and dragons, non human romance, gods and demons. It could've been Chinese cultural export that could've become a bigger market than japanese BL, that's of the government wasn't obsessed with gay men living their lives and women having hobbies instead of giving birth.

I'm not sure what could be considered a hidden jam since most of the modern novels are less popular among western readers. But Wuzhe, Priest, Huaishang, Feitian are popular and their novels are a great read.

Restricted Area - prison sol; ex neighbor and target of the main character's voyeurism-now inmate x gay voyeur - prison librarian
Mist - sci-fi unlimited flow, time travel; squad leader x openly gay newly added team member with hyperthymesia. Male lead's "homophobia" is mostly a joke. The translator posted the chart with timelines which helps a lot because time hijinks can be a bitch.
Kaleidoscope of death - horror, unlimited flow; crossdressing chad x cat lover who crossdresses a few times for plot reasons. The author has a great sense of humor, one of the horror novels that I did find spooky sometimes. Just don't read the extras.

C Language Cultivation - the title is self explanatory; extremely rich ceo genius x his fanboy programmer who acquires ability to cultivate through C language. At least that's what you think at first while the story slowly reveals what the fuck is going on and what the real identities and connection between the main characters are.
National First-Class Registered Exorcist (Feitian) - sequel to Tianbao Fuyao Lu that takes place in the modern world. The love interest is a modern poor exorcist who is trying to survive in the big city, ends up working in a massage prostitution parlor. The main character who is being targeted by a spirit gets gifted his "massage". His memory keeps getting erased by the exorcist organization.

If you try it and it's too depressing or rough, check out other stuff we've recced here. Cruel God/Zankoku na Kami lives up to its name, I wouldn't really recommend it unless you're super into psychological manga or are interested in the history of BL.

I was talking about manhua, some novels are indeed dark and Chinafujos have more liberty to write homo stuffs in novels, because no art there, but again rarely go beyond the rapist CEOs, rich guys or mdzs wuxia tier.
A very similar story you just described exists in a shoujo/josei Chinese manhua (Tow in one), but I'm sure the bl novel isn't as retarded as that one and surely has better writing. I will give it a try though overall.
Talking about Japanese bl novels, they are levels above Chinese ones. Unfortunately, most fan translators prefer to translate Japanese manga than novels.
If I had time and was more proficient in Japanese, I'd gladly translate my favourite ones. If anyone here is interested to translate, I can provide scans of novels I have collected over the years or help with proofreading.
If anon is interested I can recommend or share some here. They are in Japanese tho.

Maybe Ao ni Naku too, though that's a time slip story where one guy is a WWII fighter pilot and there's no old timey uniforms.

I've lived in Asia, never had a problem with discerning male facial features even on occasion they were crossdressing or wearing nongendered clothing. Asian men may have on average less pronounced jaws etc than western men, but still look manly in comparison to Asian women. There are multiple other features like the shape of eyebrows, lips and overall facial proportions that make men look like men and in case of some Chinese artists they just obviously go for female characteristics. Its okay to like it but don't pretend its some kind of racial accuracy. Not to mention that other anon is right that these are cartoons and they take liberties to draw what they find attractive. Moto Hagio's depictions of family dynamics and trauma are very in depth despite the occasional fumble in execution. I can't agree. Part 1 set the bar very high, I'd say it's one of the best psychological thrillers I've read. The art on Canis is really good, the stylization hits all the right notes, I could suck the artist's cock all day long for it, but holy fuck the writing... The main couple shows some traces of chemistry here and there, but during the first few chapters it feels like nothing is getting nowhere, then whoops now they are separated, then whoops now mr hatter decides he really likes the dogboy, then whoops now they are back and fucking.

The first volume, after mr dog gets beaten, their relationship barely evolves, then on the second volume things seem like they are evolving but everything since NY feels rushed. And then going off about the antagonists on the next volume? What the fuck was the author thinking? Worst yet, the relationship between the antagonists develops in a more organic way than than the two protagonists despite being a single volume, how the fuck did that happen?

I'm also curious how the author will reconcile the high heat high stakes narrative of the third volume with the almost slice of life themes from the main couple. Ryo seems to be at his best as this sort of underdog from the mafia, him being a model is nice but it looks like a waste of his abilities.

I'm also mad that Mr hatter gramma dies while Ryo is away. Death is always one of the best drivers to force character and relationship development, it's wasted the way it was played out. There might be a future development through that still, but at this point why not have waited for when the couple was together?

I'm worse than mad overall I'm disappointed, not because it's bad, but because the main story is rather bland when compared to the almost perfection of Mr Speaker.

Nah not really. So far at leas it's quite a light-hearted manga. The first two issues are almost amateurish in how simple the plot and the characters are, if it's your first time reading, you might get on the edge, like waiting for a jumpscare that never comes and that basically changes the overall tone of the story. The third one is a masterpiece though, not sad but pretty tense.

the phenomenon that is Sousei Yuugi. I just want to give a shoutout to the mods and posters here. I've only lurked here for a few weeks but many of my lingering questions have been answered and sentiments echoed. And while I know the point is to be completely anonymous on these boards, I get the feeling that the crowd here is more mature in general or has at least been hanging out on the block long enough to discuss things like the devolution of CLAMP works. This legit got me pissed for a the good part of 2 hours, I was looking forward to what sort of weirdness that character and the comic in general would get into, but nope, just shock value bandwagonning again. That's the most common experience with S&M manga, they start out kinky but then push the narrative to 'loving couples only like vanilla sex in missionary with handholding'. In manga it's not a kink or fetish, it's being psychologically confused before meeting One True Love(TM).

Tsugumi is in a dominant position for the whole encounter, there isn't a "top loses control and pounds the supposed power bottom" moment. It's the hottest scene in this manga so far in my opinion. Also, her art is looking better again this chapter. A bunch of nice details are back, like Megumi wearing jewellery and Tsugumi having a wiry but not childish physique. Also the whole chapter begins with a good old fashioned punch up, which this manga has sorely needed for a while.
I'll post a few shit screenshots but the scene is quite a bit longer and the lead up to it is nice.
