between geicomi and gachi, i think i prefer the latter. i've always seen it more as a genre rather than something separate. sites like digiket want to separate it and even have a list that people can use to specifically search for bara, and its called gachi doujin. some BL artists even start drawing bara or gachi-like characters in their work, so really it's more of a genre or tag rather than a different category.
i'm probably wrong in some aspects, but i started my appreciation of japanese gay art starting with this board, moved to BL, then started to appreciate bara or gachi because i've felt my tastes were evolving. and in fact, a lot of bara romance titles which i've enjoyed, reads like a BL, but with a different perspective, focus and artstyle.
terms and labels always have been messy because of confusion, misinterpretation, or just language just moving on to more modern standards. the one thing all of these have in common is that they focus on gay content. it's just different perspectives, whether its for porn or romance, it ultimately just comes down to the author.
oh, and that poll thing is specifically for this thread, so of course there would be more women here than in the rest of the board. the men who like bara or who are not into BL, are not going to go to this thread and vote on a poll they are probably not even aware of. the only boards that i can think of that are women majority would be /cm/ and /cgl/.
