Well, to begin with, bara is not a genre in itself, much like hentai isn't. Is more of a misused misinterpreted word that dumbass westerners created to lump certain types of foreign porn together but in itself is not real outside the western context. If you pay attention Japanese artists won't ever tag or refer to their shit as bara. Is just muscle porn.
So if you happen to only stumble upon ugly shit on the "bara" tag on some aggregator site then it's on you, it wouldn't happen if you knew how to traverse through pixiv or japanese twitter.
