I too just gave up, but not joining won't stop the format, since it works well enough.
That being said, a while ago there was a commotion over the legally blond broadway's decision to also record the musical and sell it (giving the option for piracy). As it turned out, it only raised the sales of tickets as more people who saw the DVD wanted to watch the real thing.
