>>2765216I start by copying the area I'm editing to a new layer. And then usually block in the entire area with the shadow tone.
With line work, I typically use a brush that is slightly fuzzy and at 80% opacity to match the rest of the art. It'll look noticably cleaner depending on the quality of the screenshot but that'll change in the final step when you scale the image back to to a normal viewing size.
Ideally you want to draw lines on a separate layer. But I already screwed up here.
