Miyano and Hosoya did some voice drama for Sarazanmai, where they play Reo and Mabu. They're both technically BL characters so if you reach really really hard, you can say that he did BLCD right there. That's the closest he'll ever get to doing one, anyway.

What's everyone's thoughts on changing up the manga we suggest in the Seven Seas survey next month? I was thinking we could push them to build up the lineup with the companies/magazines they already license from.

Sora to Hara is the next part in Asumiko Nakamura's Doukyuusei series. It's from Opera magazine who they've licensed Doukyuusei and Sotsugyousei from.

Acid Town from Kyuugou seems fairly popular and comes from RuTile. It's been released in German and Polish so we may as well push for an official English release.

Buchou wa Onee from Nagabe feels like something they would license. They've picked up 2 other series from Nagabe and this is in Opera magazine. It also has a drag queen so they might like it for the LGBT aspect.

Bokura no Shikisai isn't published in a BL magazine (it's in Monthly Action) but they've licensed from them before. It comes from Tagame and deals with LGBT themes. It pretty much seems like the successor to his other series My Brother's Husband (licensed by Pantheon Books) which did well critically and won a bunch of awards. It has a French release now too.

Theirs probably more they have access to, but those are the 4 that stick out to me so far.

So many seiyuu do BLCDs early on in their career, though, even if they don't need to after getting big roles. But I don't know much about how Miyano got famous, so maybe his exception is not surprising.

Thanks for these suggestions anon! I'm part of a print manga collecting community and shared these with the people who buy yaoi in it, we'll try to put these on the next survey. I mostly take queues from here on what to put, shame that the months of Rumspringa haven't paid off but these do seem right up their alley. I feel like the Nagabe would almost be an inevitability as long as the Wize vol sold decently.

It's published by Libre so the only option is Sublime. Libre won't license to anyone else. Chances are the owner of Sublime either doesn't like it or they don't think it'll sell to their audience.

Was the anime even all that popular? I see more people talk about Love Stage, Hitorijime My Hero, Sekaiichi Hatsukoi and even Super Lovers then Dakaretai Otoko 1.

They haven't licensed from Canna before (publisher of Lion Hearts). We could potentially try pushing it though. I was mainly thinking of stuff from publishers they have worked with already. Push any of the good stuff from them.

One Peace Books has Hidamari ga Kikoeru (I Hear the Sunspot). They haven't licensed any other BL title however so I suspect they mainly wanted it due to the awards.

No other English publisher has licensed from them that I can find. Yamada to Shounen by Mita Ori may have a chance however and that was in Canna. It had a Polish release in 2016.

Not completely, it's just looking less likely that Seven Seas will grab it.

They have confirmed on twitter that they have a variety of licenses to announce for Ghost Ship. But they are waiting on Diamond Distributors to resume normal operations before announcing those. They could potentially announce it for Ghost Ship, but I expect the first BL title for the line will be Titan's Bride similar to how they're working with Coolmic on Fire In His Fingertips.

I thought The Speaker was done scanlating, as the story shifts the perspective towards that hacker/computer guy towards the end of vol 5? I'm pretty sure it's the case due to this same technique being used in the end of Dear Hatter and into The Speaker (focus shifting from Ryou to the older mafia guys)

I read Seven Seas release of Total Eclipse of the Eternal Heart recently and liked how it didn't feel like a BL series. It was more horror/drama which felt fresh.

She's probably the one who has the most talent out of the three people we're talking about, certainly knows how to market her stuff at least.

Alice Oseman is a little British girl who does a twee "schoolboys falling in love" slice of life series, it's also been very successful in Japan and among the younger fujo crowd in the West. I read the first volume, it was bland and the boys felt even more asexual than in most nonsexual BL. Dropped it when there was a random one-chapter eating disorder "very special episode".

It is often inconsistent though. Usually web novels, audio dramas and manhua (published post 2015; the works prior that often had sex scenes) are allowed to have kissing scenes, but not anything that happens below the neck, they often do the kissing and the scene skips to the next morning where both of them are in bed, you do know the characters slept together though.
But it's more tricky when it comes to the more popular published titles, for example, the chinese bl novel that won the most prestigious sci-fi award in china censored one of the kisses but kept the boner the character had for his lover; MDZS (the most popular bl at the moment) manhua removed the kissing scene but left the panel right after it. The kissing scene was leaked anyway.
And there were plently of plot focused stories even prior the insane censorship. What I mean is I'd love bl stories of different genres with canon gay couples that don't only focus on the romance, not that I'd prefer the romance to be almost non-existent.

Okay, I agree. Stalker is the wrong word, but it definitely changes the dynamic.
Originally Shii's awkwardness and lack of impulse control could be blamed on romantic/sexual inexperience. Basically a teen who's got no idea what he's doing for the first time. That would at least make the assault scenes palatable.

This new history just makes Shii come of as more manipulative, or sadistic you know? I still don't know how this is suppose to be romantic.

I kinda get what you are coming from, but it really depends on it is portrayed. It's not like having sex suddenly makes you an expert, especially in this context which seems like he was literally just distancing himself from Tamaki and went from a dude that reminded him of him. After they reconnected he made a serious effort to get with him but he's frustrated by the other inability to experience sex normally, Tamaki doesn't properly reciprocate but also goes along with him and doesn't outright reject him.

I do think it's kinda sudden to portray him as an non virgin though. I was expecting your typical rapeshit, instead it seems like goes a bit dubcon with his supposed boyfriend, but stops when he understand the other is annoyed and later understand he pushed so far. With is a bit unsavory, but in the real of forgivable for me.

I'm interested in Tamaki's side in all of this and his internal thoughts. His trauma is understandable, but it does feel like he's sorta stringing the other along (Not on purpose).

I don't think the chart needs to be super restrictive about what gets to be in it or not, but I can't see Zankoku fitting in. Since you haven't read it, I'll explain: I assume the reason why it's there in the first place is because of Jeremy and Ian, and the thing about them is that their "romance" doesn't even start developing up until half of the manga(which, mind you, has 17 volumes), and even then it doesn't "pay off" because, spoilers: their relationship is awful and goes to shit. This didn't frustrate me when I was reading it because it made sense thematically, but also because I was aware that the manga was a Shoujo melodrama first and foremost, not a BL.
Iirc this manga was suggested because some anon wanted to add classics to the chart, so my suggestion is to replace it with Thomas no Shinzo or Kazeki.

He didn't stop though, Tamaki literally had to punch him off. I agree it depends on execution, but scenes like this reads more assault than dubcon to me, and Shii's invariable flat facial expressions isn't helping.

Kazeki's translation is still ongoing but I'm pretty sure I read Thomas no Shinzo 8 years ago. It's probably the best you can get in terms of very early BL even if it's not a proper romance, so I think it's the best replacement.
To make it clear, I'm not trying to fight to remove Zankoku or anything, I just think having it on a BL rec chart is a bad idea because it might lead people to read it as a BL, which I can't imagine not being frustrating. You're gonna have to put up with 10 volumes of sexual abuse drama to get to the couple, and once you get to them you'll just watch them each other miserable on repeat until they finally break up. Good melodrama, bad BL.

Oh boy here we go. Now I used to like it, I rated it about 6-7/10. It had a nice premise and the buildup was fine first. Everything seemed logical and characters acted like normal people would. Then something happened and the author decided to stretch it out for no reason. MC started to act like a hysterical middle school girl, there was added about 20 chapters focused on an entirely unnecessary and pointless drama. They got together and broke up for no reason at all. After this was painfully dragged to extreme lengths and finally over there were chapter after chapter after chapter where literally nothing happened. Instead of focusing on the second couple (the only interesting one imo) another relationship was added it again felt unnecessary and weird.
After all I just got so tired of character's and author's bullshit that I just skim through the chapters just to see what's going on with the second couple. And most unfortunately I'm noticing signs they're getting the exact same shit treatment like the first one.

tldr: it's shit and I rate it 3/10.

I was afraid that would happen. I paused on chapter 50 a few years ago and recall it was one of, if not the best manhua around. I really liked the authors first work, Gaung Xiang, and on paper Here U are should be a superior work since it has more well-rounded characters, snappier dialogue and more consistent artwork. I guess it's just the whole being less than the sum of its parts.

Yeah it was alright, average I'd say. Then something broke or the author decided to take a huge dump on the readers and it went to shit extremely fast.
If like me you like slow burn realistic and cute stories I'd suggest For your Love which is also a manhua. Now that I think about it the story is very much like koimonogatari but this manhua eventually gets somewhere, unlike the former.

Anon you don't understand, I really mean it when I say it was awful. I don't think I've ever seen a manga "couple" crash and burn as spetacularly as they did. Were they ever even happy together? Thanks, I've actually read it. Unfortunately I think it suffers from the same problems as Here U, though it ended before things became too tedious. The author was clearly dragging it out and didn't know how to create tension after the initial confession. Also, not a lot of variation in character designs, to the point where I confused mc's love interest with his best friend/rival on several occasions.

Ultimately, I still think Guang Xiang is the best example in this genre of manhua.

Interesting. I haven't read it, but I'll give it a try, sure. I agree with you about the issues though. It's just hard to find stories that fill all my prefered topics and have nice art as a bonus.

A story where a romantic relationship between two guys is at the center of it? I don't know, BL is unarguably not the main point of the story considering Jeremy and Ian's relationship isn't even a thing up until volume 10. It's, like I said, merely "element" of the manga.
And listen, I'm mostly going by the fact that Complex got denied from the chart because anons complained that there was too much forced drama and that the couple breaks up in the middle. With Jeremy and Ian, you're getting worse than that.

I think it'd be reasonable to just say what's BL based on if they're marketed as BL. Having anons decide if a title is BL is gonna cause a lot of confusion and I'm p sure the publishers in Japan know who and what're they're marketing.
As for 10 Dance, yes it isn't in a BL magazine now, but as other anon said 4/5 of the volumes were published as BL. Even in the west, like in Kinokuniya, it's still placed in the BL section (Eng and Jap ver)
That's just my 2 cents.

Personally, I think a story of a failed relationship between dudes still counts as BL. A Cruel God Reigns has a heavy emphasis on relationships between men, just not on the loving and fulfilling end of the spectrum.

The chart has a warning warning for torture and rape so I think readers with a braincell would know what to expect and wouldn’t think it’s a happy series. I also disagree with Complex being removed, but I guess too many people didn’t like it.

These are valid points and if you guys are that particular about allowing Zankoku on the chart then I think it's fine being there, I really don't mind it myself since I do like the manga, but I still think it might sparkle some confusion. Either way, if we're really letting it stay then I'd suggest once again adding Thomas no Shinzo too, since it's also good and there's no reason why it should be out.

Funnily enough, I only notice whenever I read their translations for Thanat's works. For this though, I think it's partially because I can't follow her paneling sometimes.

Yeah. I find it weird that Thanat's works in particular has shoddy qc so I checked the original jp text but they all make sense and flaw well enough as it should.
That and Suzumaru Minta's works also have some spotty spots and that ruined some scenes for me.
Hatsukoi Encounter has good TL, though shame about the plot.

I thought it was pretty cute and looked forward to each chapter... The one I'm surprised has so much hype is Link and Ring, it's kind of saccharine and the main characters aren't particularly interesting or distinct from each other.

Two who have been a surprise to me that I haven't seen mentioned here are Makuno and Nacolat. I've enjoyed their stuff a lot, futekiya really knows how to pick its doujinshi artists.

People started hosting her raws on paid sites and sites with ads like 13dl, so after a long campaign of trying all sorts of things so people couldn't do that and being yelled at by entitled kids who didn't like that her raws were getting harder to download as a consequence, she decided to stop sharing raws at all.

Some scan teams didn't like her because she watermarked everything big-time, so unless they got permission to use her raws and she sent them the un-watermarked ones, they couldn't use her raws without looking like dicks. And she could (understandably, imo) be a bit picky over who she let use her raws.

Her decision to stop sharing raws also convinced a few smaller sharers to stop sharing. I know I was about to start when all of this went down but because of her experience I decided to not do it.

To OP wherever they may be. Could Nights Before Nights be included in the rec list? I sw a couple of anons mentioning it in past threads. It's good. Also is anyone reading Barbarities? I think it could be a nice add but since no one has mentioned it I wonder if it has adepts at all.
I would consider adding Hare no Hi by Asada Nemui as oneshot rec. And I see MADK as a rec, anyone has read HEARTLESS by Nishin Masumi, art is eerie and gorgeous af and it had a twisted plot, too bad it's only one volume, it had material for a short run series.

I'll say this here: NISHIN is one of the best bl artist's of the past decade in terms of artwork.

The explicit depictions of rape, body horror, and mutilation in her work will make almost anything in all of Mangadom, let alone BL, look quaint by comparison. Heartless is probably her best work though, from a narrative perspective.
