Yep, it absolutely is possible! Renta JP is probably the easiest because you can just use PayPal, Amazon and Ebookjapan are highest quality that I've tried. They're also on cmoa and one of pixiv's offshoots, but I haven't used those. I just checked the pastebin and the links there are the links for digital. There actually isn't a link for physical there at all, just a note that some people buy physical copies through auction sites or CDjapan. Do you need a guide for signing up to any of them?

It's not really BL, anon. That Blue Sky Feeling, Kinou Nani Tabeta, Sarazanmai, or Shimanami Tasogare aren't there either. But that doesn't mean any of these titles can't be added in the future, I'm just guessing that's why they're not there now. I wouldn't be against it or anything.

Technically Sarazanmai is BL, it ran in a BL mag and the cops are a gay couple. I'd recommend Kino Nani Tabeta regardless of what it's classified as, it's comfy. Anyway I think it's fine to include gayshit that's not technically BL, like ANF.

What about if we had a separate section in chart for non-BL titles that can appeal to the audience? It can cover the LGBT stuff (eg Shimanami Tasogare), titles with lots of male fanservice (eg Fire In His Fingertips) and titles that are heavy on the BL/homo undertones (eg some of the CLAMP stuff).

Yeah I vote against undertones and fanservice, it's messy and subjective.

I'm fine with ANF though. It wasn't just 50 chapters of het since Touma drove most of the story, there were always signs of Taichi being attracted to him, and homo won.

Arguments can be made for ANF, since Touma's attraction to MC is the primary conflict of the entire series. Can't say the same for Eva or CLAMP. Maybe No. 6?

The gay romance was skipped, deal with it, if I wanted to read about "signs" and "subtexts" I can pick up any shounen written by a female author who is a know fujoshi and do the same thing since half of their time they are barely containing themselves from having the characters make out on screen. Do you understand what romance is? Is confessing, getting together, kissing and having people react to it.

The chart is for BL, otherwise let's start to include every shoujo in the 80 with gays or every anime with some gay text. Gankutsuou, best BL ever!

Yeah, good luck with that. Every single gay anime has a whole section of people who doesn't think the character are gay. YoI still gets debated to this day and people still try to pull that stuff with Evangelion too. You can probably only include things were the author came out and said "yes, x is gay", but you'll find out it seldom happen (Because why they should).

I've seen people argue Touya and Yukito are now straight because CLAMP stopped writing about them and addressing their romance. Plus this topic is for BL anyway, this feels like more /a/ stuff or for another thread. I understand people would like to discuss their heavy sub-text/gay anime non BL, but it's not really the place and should make another thread.

It's no longer subtext if the story followed through. Subtext and fanservice are a dime a dozen. Non-BL with actual gay is common. Non-BL where the gay is a main thing is rare. Even rarer is gay winning, like it or not ANF is notable in this regard.

Because I kept reading about the gay romance after the ending, so I went through it and there was fucking none. Instead it was midget dating and then it ended and it was suddenly gay.

The problem is how you decide it.
No, 6, AnF and Sarazanami for example textual gay, but where do you draw the line? YoI is gay unless you perform mental gymnastics, but some people are still unsatisfied on it (Even if we know why it was censored). Binan leans heavy on the subtext to the point it's pretty much becomes text with the twins in S2 and some characters in S3, but never quite commits to it. Gankutsuou has Franz, which is gay but only because the author confirms it. It also has the count/Albert, which many would describe as ambiguous, but on other hand they did kiss on the cheek and it's hard to read Albert's actions as anything but a crush. Utena has everyone being bi and a couple of gay dudes, but it's actually never put in plain text that "Akio was fucking Touga" (even though it's obvious). Running with the Wind's ending is easily interpreter as romantic and the author is a fujo, but it's not quite textual. Banana Fish is pointed as one of the most recent example of gay romances, but on other hand didn't the author pull a "it's love beyond gender and species and something special" in some databooks. Richard came out recently and has Richard stating is bi (In the novel) and in the last volume is has Seigi admitting to himself he has feelings for the other man, but I really wouldn't know if it can be recc as "gay romance in progress". Samumenco's ending is super gay EXCEPT according to the director it's not gay EXCEPT the other staff members disagree so they get married in the gacha game and are show living together in the manga. pet came out recently and it's hard to describe it as anything but "gay" but on other hand it's never says outright that "the characters are homosexual" (Even though the main pairing is literally compared to the straight couples and one of the two is jealous of the other couples, etc)

Is Devilman gay? What about Appmon? The characters utters the world "Love" and they have all the visual of straight couples. What about stuff like Umineko Ep. VII for example? Koi to Uso has a gay character, but it's a harem manga. HxH features multiple gay characters, but it's also not something everyone would agree (I would say Hisoka and Uvogin at least count).

But nobody argues that that aspect was the main focus of the narrative. This isn't about whether or not a main or side character is gay, it's about whether or not it's a main focus of the narrative.

And yeah I agree, AnF isn't a gay romance or BL, by any stretch, but it does deal with themes of same sex attraction, love vs friendship and the consequences therefrom.

It's almost certainly because of the scanlation. The scanlation was good quality and was left almost complete, so sales would be very low for the first two volumes. This is also why we haven't had Tasogare Out Of Focus.

I think the fact he kissed Shii has a kid is meant to be taken a clue he used to have a least an interesting for him. Go for Sweet Pool since that's actually licensed. It also tends to be the most polarizing N+C title due to the content. It'll either become your favorite title by N+C or your least liked.

Personally I really liked it. It's dark, bloody and disgustingly beautiful. Some manga have tried to touch on similar content, but I've yet to see one do it as well as Sweet Pool. Also I fully recommend getting the limited edition from JASTUSA for the soundtrack. I never really pay attention to the music in VNs but Sweet Pool is A+.

Don't put that in, it's nothing special. It's just a stoic asshole seme and overemotional uke. The art is smooth and modern but it's not special either. It does that thing where it shows some chapters from the seme's point of view but he is basically the same on the inside as the outside so it doesn't even add much.

Gift by Ichinose Yuma has a similar framework but is just executed much better. The dynamic is kindhearted closeted coach (uke) x traumatized boxing prodigy (seme). Like Hard Heat Hearts, it starts with a kindhearted man picking up a dangerous stoic homeless guy, but the ups and downs of Kei's boxing career make the actual story really interesting and add flavor to the dynamic between the two. The chapters from his point of view are also much better than the seme's from HHH, they change how you understand his behavior and add to the story since Kei has a lot more going on inside than he shows. The art isn't as slick though.

An ex-yakuza guy who lost his lover ends up looking after his lover's younger brother, who is next in line to be the head of a yakuza family. It's not just rape like the other anon said, it has a plot about grief and healing from it, as well as yakuza shenanigans.

I personally loved Lamento, it has interesting lore, the guys are all nice and the soundtrack is 10/10. A bunch of the drama tracks are also translated and they were interesting to read/listen to after finishing the VN. If you like fantasy pick this one.

I haven’t played Sweet Pool but I’ll probably check it out soon. Like the other anon said it also has a really good soundtrack, listening to it reminded me of Akira Yamaoka’s music for Silent Hill

This has got to be one of the most interesting BL I've read in ages. It's a supernatural BL about a pair of ghost hunters, I wasn't sure about it at first but by the end of Volume 1, I was hooked. Togainu No Chi reused the fantranslation with a slight touch up. But Jastusa just wanted to ride off the editors popularity and contacts. The team behind Dramatical Murder also confirmed they had their translation purchased.

On the manga and light novel side I don't think any have been purchased.

But uploading scanlation stuff on mangadex is fine, I mean, that's literally what the site is for. There's plenty of licensed stuff that gets posted there and never gets to manga reading sites, I don't think most people even know that Nyaa has manga. And pretty much all the BL that gets posted there gets automatically scraped by bots onto mangago and from there onto other sites, even the low-profile stuff. I don't want to put them on nyaa either, I'm not looking for clout, recognition, or to share anything for a longer than the life of a thread. I just want to share with anons, not the whole universe. I guess this is the sort of thing a discord would be good for, though I don't think it would be a good idea in general.

"Rape as love is shit" was a common criticism back then, even in shoujo manga (Which are tangentially related to BL since they started from the same source and share both the female audience) the trope was infamous to the point it was often deconstructed by some famous works.

This said, I'm not particularly bothered by Walk on Water's rape, it's clearly portrayed as wrong and it's not done by the love interest. I do think it's cheap drama though, like the author couldn't think of better way to generate some drama than a 30 years old stereotyped seme raping the object of his affection.

As for the stuff you described yeah I greed it's bad, there is nothing wrong with a rape kink and rape pron, but honestly fujo are pretty chill compared to otaku, at least no one throws a fit if someone isn't a virgin.

It's not about showing it, but how it's shown. Goblin Slayer had rape, but you'd be hard pressed to argue those scenes weren't eroticised as hell. Compared to previous sex scenes, this one uses the same angles, facial expressions, close-ups. It's just shorter and a with a bit more crying, and even then.

Maybe your issue is with how the art portrayed it, and in that case that’s subjective, because the framing was the MC clearly not enjoying what was going on even if his body was responding. I’d be more critical if the MC falls for the rapist, but that’s not what happens — it’s the exact opposite.

I agree it's not rape=love,but that's a real low bar to clear these days. I mean, just look at most of the works in the pinboard, almost none of them utilize this tired trope in order to generate conflict, or use it to generate sympathy with the characters.
As for the kicking thing, I don't know. I just look at scenes like this and find it very unconvincing. Again, it's a consequence of the artist having conflicting priorities (erotic vs rape).

In the next few chapters he follows the main character around while playing the victim, he also forces his way into mc's boyfriend's house and tries to assert his dominance there by proclaiming how someone he likes is dating trash instead of him to mqueen's friends. Genuinely, the answer is the rise of sports fujos. I mean look at Given, they aren't big per se but theyre clearly not built like early BL and its because the mangaka got started in Haikyuu doujins. The honest truth is a lot of BL tropes are a result of momentum rather than "women like this more than that". BL looked the way it did because thats what 90s Shoujo men looked like. That's half true. You're right that BL and LGBT comics are an afterthought to them, but you're not right that the yuri they license is easier to market to the LGBT crowd. You'd think it would be, since the west is much more comfortable with lesbians than gays in media, but these yuri titles they're licensing aren't like My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness. They're shonen-style fapbait/moe yuri aimed at guys, and they haven't been selling well in the West. They don't market their Yuri titles in the same way as their LGBT manga either, they market it like their moe or fantasy/isekai titles. It's all "uwu she got isekaid as the heroine but all she wants to do kiss the villainess!" rather than "a sweet portrayal of a young lesbian's first experiences with another girl in a parallel fantasy world."

Their main editor just likes yuri. They sometimes pick up "good" BL that they can market more like LGBT manga, yes, but that's not because the pickings are slim. Arguably BL has more titles like that because it's a much bigger genre and has won more cultural awards, whereas yuri mainly has the shit aimed at otaku guys, and the kind of sad josei titles aimed at women. The reason they're picking up so much yuri is personal preferences, not marketing, like SuBLime refusing to print some things that are incredibly popular because the person in charge personally doesn't like them. (Not knocking her taste though since the main things she has refused are Honto Yajuu and Super Lovers haha)

The thing about BL is that its a huge genre and the people at Seven Seas don't really know anything about it. They clearly follow /u/s LN recommendation lists or something since they license stuff thats dead in Japan but has been MTL in the west and gotten some attention. Ultimately, its about what people like/pay attention to, not money. This goes for a lot of the industry actually, or we'd get a lot more BL adaptations than we do.

This could be bullshit obviously but I think the sex scenes in Rumspringa blew its chances of getting picked up by Seven Seas. Sure they're pretty short and usually somewhat plot relevant, but they're way too graphic, I didn't know anything about Azuma Kaya at the time and yet they made it so obvious that she draws smut. I can't imagine a person who isn't used to BL not being put off by them. I'll keep asking at every survey, though.

But do they have any smut BL at all? Literally every single one of their BL titles are "clean", and the reason for that as mentioned before is that they hope to be able to marked it beyond BL fans. The only exception was I guess Gesshoku Kitan, but that was because they were hoping to milk on the success of Nakamura-kun by bringing in something else from the author, and also because they could market it to Horror fans.

To be fair, they don't have any yet. Their Ghost Ship label is pretty new and only just did their first josei porn, but I don't have any actual evidence they would. It's a single volume originally published on Pixiv. It was cleaned up and published in Gekkan Action over 6 chapters. Safe to say this was a cheap license.

Gekkan Action also has Bokura no Shikisai by Tagame which might appeal to some.
