As someone who studied different fanbases on how they view each char in such issue, it's all in the audience hands to judge because it's fictional chars after all, and they take several things in considerations to think if a char is top or bottom in a specific ship, they judge by appearance, personality, age, with whom is he being shipped with, etc.
I've seen the popular opinion on nero that he's the innocent pure cute pup simply because of his persona, the fact he's the youngest, and it helped their vision more when nero looks a little smaller when standing next to dante & vergil, that's why we're seeing him the bottom mostly with dante & vergil
We're even seeing bottom nero with freaking top donte, because donte's char is super edgy and a total dickhead, while they see nero as the cute boy, guess who would they choose the top in this ship? This ship seems growing for some reason lol
Same with V, based on how many bottom V out there he seems to be chosen as the bottom slut for all dmc chars, and if it wasn't for V existence, nero would've been in his place as the ultimate dmc bottom instead.
inb4 someone is like "i disagree, i see this or that char top not bottom"
i know each got their own view of course, i'm talking about the popular view based on the things we're seeing so far and why it's happening
