Even minimal animation is very very expensive. Manga artists often don’t work what would be considered a living wage, especially doujijshi artists who don’t often make a profit at all and are mostly self published.
Also consider how many people are needed to create a professional animation vs a manga.

idk why they stopped and just stuck with shounen-ai level of adaptation but somehow they have the budget with shota that attracts both men and women. they don't make yaoi anime anymore like the used to, sadly

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the Japanese have some sort of tax thing on porn and it's cheaper to just make an "ecchi" anime, and that's why we have so many of the fucking things compared to hentai?
