In a nutshell, it's because of uke/seme dynamics: the thin, effeminate guy is the bottom (Sora) and the stronger, muscular, and more masculine guy is the top (Riku). Granted, both sort of have a baby face and look kind of twinkish, but Riku is undoubtedly the more masculine one of the two.
