Someone is rich when their income greatly exceeds the required amount to afford monthly needs, save for several months ahead, and afford luxuries.
It's not surprising. In fact, the income for a crowdfunded artist versus an employed illustrator on payroll is, generally, if not almost always inferior. A crowdfunded artist doesn't have insurance or benefits either, or job security.
