I'd love if they devoted a bunch of screen time to showing them bonding and shit, but do you realize how expensive animation is? they have a limited number of episodes to tell the story, so if they devoted more of it to character relationships the story would move more slowly.
lance is an overcompensating fuckboy, he's either your type or he ain't. hunk deserved much better than what the writers did with him. pidge and Shiro are great, Keith is bland garbage. allura was pretty meh but gets slightly more interesting as the show goes on. the villains are one dimensional, supporting characters are hit and miss. the animation is above its peers. there's some occasional good humor. some of the fight scenes were well done.
basically it's a family-friendly cartoon about big robots fighting aliens in space and I think you should set your expectations accordingly.
