>>2385427What I would like the context of is how England/UK wizards handled muggle folk. Especially given Newt's lines regarding how he thinks American treatment of wizard and muggle relations is bullshit. Also looking at how Newt and Jacob interact, I couldn't believe that Newt was cohersing (how the fuck did they think that fell under blackmailing tho) Jacob into helping him, especially after Jacob's "I know Im not dreaming" line. Newt's a decent guy that doesnt like rules, is about what I gathered from him. Tina enforces laws that would negatively effect his beasts, so he doesn't immediately register as alright, meanwhile Jacob being in awe of Queenie's baking magic (and magic in general) probably encouraged Newt to be like, "You think thats cool? Check out my suit case.". Add that, on top of Jacob genuinely finding the beasts interesting and thinking Newt is swell, and you have an awkward magizoologist who's excited he has a friend.
And this may be because i loved that swadaloon bat plant but fuck, the swooping evil bit was Newt being a cheeky shit. Is throwing your brain eating beast at someone polite? No, but given the later scene near the end, Newt has that thing whipped to where it listens to him when he says "leave that brain alone". At the least he knew he had everything under control.
Like I can understand him having flaws and OPs being pissed off that everyone calls him perfection incarnate, but nit picking details to say, "no look hes a shit and heres how im going to over analyze to tell you why" grinds my fucking gears too. Like no shit he has flaws, thats why hes interesting, but youre reading way too into it. Everyone fucking lies, and Ill grant them that to Tina it makes him look shady but to the viewer it just makes him a regular idiot who lies to the police...Im actually really curious now if he picked that up from bullshitting Theseus and being able to get away with it.
