Klance is the Zutara of Voltron, therefore it's got a large contingent of crazy fans who felt threatened by the very existence of rival ships instead of ignoring shit they don't like. They learned how to play the wounded gazelle card so they pulled scorch and burn tactics on their ship rivals (Sheith and to a lesser extent Shance, both of which involve Shiro) by painting it so liking Shiro at all morphed into a fandom crime using the tried-and-true accusation of pedophilia. Unless you like Shiro/Allura or Shiro/Matt, then it's OK if it makes room for Klance because lol double standards.
Hance and Heith also got some of it too. They knew that bullshit pedophilia excuse wouldn't work on it so instead they relied on guilt-by-association tricks where they would accuse some of the more popular artists of being pedophiles by proxy, by claiming they were friends with or going too soft on them for things like simply reblogging art that came from "problematic" fans (or being friends of friends of these "problematic" fans). It's really fucked up, as someone who doesn't even like Sheith very much.
