>>2249193There isn't any specific story to it, it just defined the concept of "flavor of the month" to the point of self-parody. It completely consumed a huge amount of people and then vanished from everyone's minds a few months later. My memory is terrible but I think it was the first of its kind and all of the similar fanart/tumblr obsessions came afterward (OFF, Mystery Skulls, Undertale etc.), making it quasi-historic.
