When Adult Swim approached Dan Harmon about making a show for them, Harmon reached out to Roiland, who was known for the Doc and Mharti voices he did constantly. Roiland has said on multiple occasions that he's honestly not even sure anyone at Adult Swim has seen that original short...though, I have to believe they have, by now.
