It's been a while since I watched it, but I think the last episode basically ends right in the middle of a story arc. Like, there was no way they could have wrapped up the story in those 4 episodes, they clearly intended to make more. But it has some stuff that wasn't in the original OVAs and I think what happens in the 4th episode wasn't in the original OVAs at all.
Still nice seeing the shiny new animation, though.
