Is climate change as bad as they say? I see retards saying that things will get catastrophic by 2050, on the other hand, retards saying that climate change will barely affect us. What are your thoughts, /sci?

Follow the money any time there is debate on what narrative is propaganda; there’s no money in damaging the environment less so the narrative will be “environmental degradation is propaganda”

Well, everything meant to shift your opinion is propaganda but here’s the facts

The earth as a system can only cool through black body radiation, and we can measure the absorbance spectra and concentration of gases

Methane is stored in the permafrost and melting it releases this.

Solubility of gases decrease with increasing temperature

Ice is highly reflective and as it disappears the earth absorbs more heat

Water (like all substances) expands when it is warmer

Hot air holds more moisture and dries the land more: dry land means forest fires which were storing carbon.

More moisture storage means it rains less but when it rains it pours.

Add this up and yeah it’s going to be an uphill climb. Modern man has a broken relationship to the earth; all of our activities increase entropy

Basically this. Oil companies have been proven to have paid people in the past to keep quiet about this. Exxon knew they were doing irreversible damage to the planet in the fucking 70s but basically no one cared/thought it'd get bad for real/thought they'd live to see it actually happen

How do you fix climate change (WHICH IS GONNA KILL US ALL!!!)? Be reducing one or both variables you have control over.
Funny how, just as the climate change situation is really getting dire, a gain of function virus escapes, decimates the world's economies and gets people to take experimental gene therapy injections.
And now, there's war in Europe, taking out two of the world's largest food and fertilizer exporters, right as COVID is apparently making a comeback in China, "forcing" them to shut down again... right as all these big food processing plants are burning down in the US and countless millions of chickens are being killed to try and stop a sudden massive bird flu outbreak...
Anyways, I'm off to take my meds.

Climate Change is no existential threat, it would affect poor countries with desertification and coastal degradation the most. 1 billion people could be affected by 2100 but on the other hand we built citities for 3 billion people in the last century and the number 1 billion could be minized with various projects and agricultural planning. The issue is political, for climate change will destabilize various regions in the world and make them incapapble of feeding themselves.
For developed countries climate refugees will be the biggest problem but the political conflicts would be bigger than the climate phenomhen itself.

The truth is that climate change is very much real. Increased CO2 levels will lead to a rapid increase in average global temperatures. The science is not even that complicated. CO2 absorbs outgoing heat radiation from the earth to space and re-emits it back onto earth. The other truth is that it is almost impossible to stop. Unless we are willing to revert societally and technologically back to the medieval age. The other uncomfortable truth is that combatting climate change is pretty often diametrically opposed to things like preserving biodiversity or stopping ocean pollution. If there was an easy way out we would have already taken it.
