Am I majoring in a meme degree /sci/? I thought physics had decent job prospects, but I don't seem to have any skills that employers are looking for.

Solids is when the particles are very close together and organized liquids the particles are unorganized and very not so close gas the particles are very everywhere
Physical characteristics of a solid is a candle can be a solid and soft at the same time solids dont take the shape of a container it is in unless the area is perfect in placement, liquids take the shape of the container they are in but are limited to their volume and surface cutting them of in occupying space in reality, gas takes all the space but is limited to how much there is of it.

yeah you just have to learn programming on your own, then pretend like the physics degree was some how relevant to programming like computer science is. The actual classes are hilariously impractical. They're based on teaching artillery officers in ww1 to calculate trajectories, and they never changed.

Yeah duh, that's because all the physics majors go for REUs, not internships. There are some internships open to physics majors as well, especially in the DoD, but it's rarer.

If you wanted to ensure a career, you should have gone for the career oriented fields. It doesn't mean you can't pivot or find work or that you're unemployable, but there's a reason engineering exists as a field. Engineering is LITERALLY professional/work focused physics.

Of my friends in physics, which I was also a major in:

Most of them are adjacent or directly in the field. It's just pretty hard to be in the field without a PhD.

Fellow physicist here. I got out of undergrad with a 3.0 (barely acceptable GPA for the field, but what can I say? shit's hard). I had no internship experience. No research experience. Nothing but the degree. Took 1.5 years to get a job above minimum wage, and in all honesty I could've landed it w/o the bachelors. If you're gonna stay in physics. Get research experience. Go to grad school. You'll have an easier time landing internships or entry level engineering positions with the experience and higher degree under your belt.

You also really need to learn coding. I never learned it and it fucked me bad. Just pick up python or C++. It'll go a long way. A B.S. in Physics doesn't do anything for you. It just helps develop some tools that you can use in making your own future

What did you expect, you think there's some huge economic need for people who can work out Hamiltonians by hand or who know the theory of electromagnetism? People who work as physicists usually have PhDs.

You've got to be able to do something people need young blood and that's coding, spreadsheets, email, and PowerPoint sorry to break it to you

301: thermodynamics to calculate the pressure of an explosion. maybe some fluid dynamics to talk about the shape of the shell.
there's also some electromagnetic stuff that you'll never use, like "here's how to calculate the magnetic field of an infinitely long, infinitely thin cylinder". And quantum mechanics that's even more useless (calculate the wave function of a single particle in a box, which you can never observe in any way). If you want to actually apply any of this in real world applications, you need engineering classes that are much more advanced and specific. And of course you'll need to completely study programming on your own.

The only thing I felt really confident about from my undergrad physics classes was my ability to aim artillery at targets long distances away (and even then, you have to approximate a lot of the resistances if you're doing it by hand).

not a single professor or lab I have ever worked with would be using a program like this. it's all word of mouth. physics is a pretty relaxed and unprofessional field (apart from some subfields tied to industry) so you won't be able to use things like linkedin to find anyone there.
