In a sense, I suppose. It might be useful for aspiring applied mathematicians if theyve never done much with probability or statistics or markov processes. So it might be an interesting course to take. However, any of the important material on those matters would also be covered in a lot of other classes other than mathematical finance, so its by bo means necessary.

Not really. It's mainly about how various financial instruments can be modeled using stochastic methods. Though there are some, generally graduate, books which are similarly titled but are just rigorous introduction to stochastic analysis with a bit of option pricing sprinkled in.
Might as well take a course that focuses on the math or an applied one that pulls in examples from more fields.

I definitely think studying these things is fun, but you could just as easily study statistical thermodynamics. Financial math is an interesting problem and I'm sure you could develop a stock/crypto strategy based off your studies.
