Yes and no. I don't think his contributions can be overstated, but the problem is that over the decades his work has been oversimplified and blended with all of the other accomplishments of other researchers of his era.

Of course not, I think most people would probably argue for someone like Newton or Euler.

I think that the world would have been a much safer place without him. He pioneered nuclear weapons. I think it was a huge mistake and the world is now a much more dangerous place to live in because of him and his "contributions."
