And in answer to OP I hated school as a kid but I recognize it serves a purpose which is standardized babysitting for kids in an environment where they'll be socialized with most every other same same age group kid in their neighborhood, and also will be given menial tasks to do which provides some preparation for the basics of holding down a job.
In terms of the subject matter being important or useful, it mostly isn't.
