already way ahead of most anons on this site.
Maybe exercise on your own. Whenever you see a number, try to factorize it into primes.
Take some randomly chosen small numbers, and find out how to combine them using
addition and multiplication into a given larger number. The brits have a show called
"8 out of 10 cats does countdown" which you can look up on youtube.

op here, only bought it since it was highly rated on amazon, I'm sure if i look up what the best learning book is on youtube those Maths wizards will recommend something different, it should do the trick for the time being though

You know, I'm a big math proponent, but truth be told, just follow the path of hs math and pre college, the yellow books have a jump book from hs to college, then learn calculus, but really learn all this shit, get it down good, understand it. And then learn according to your need, what you really want it to sink in is the mathematical thinking, the way to thing, the math itself is garbage.

Unless you are working on something specific you will forget most of the math you learn, all you will remember is that there are tools (math) to do that specific thing, and the different ways to approach a problem. So yeah, learning higher math just for learning sake won't do you any good in the long run, having some tools will be cool, but being autistic about it and try to "learn all the math I can", yeah I don't think so.

You need to lay down actual strategy and stick to it, incrementially going into harder problems.
People that grind basic stuff ad infinitum get stuck on that basic stuff under delusion that they are somewhat competent.
Such people are common problem in IT.

going to be honest OP, most of the time people say they're awful at math but half the time I feel its exaggeration, Ive found that I was better than I thought while relearning algebra to the point that I was skipping certain chapters to keep from getting bored. Its really just the school environment most of the time and up to the individuals work ethic

i agree anon..i was put in the top classes for english lessons my whole life, and was in the lowest for math - i failed math by the end of high school.

ofcourse it would be easy for me to point fingers at others for my lack of achievement, however, environment is a big factor in education. had I not been paired with retards and class clowns I believe I would have wanted to achieve more being around more sensible peers.

something must be done about the environment in schools.

I was like you until about halfway through last year, I did all highschool stuff on kahn academy, then I used edX for calculus MIT courses, although they have open coursewhere stuff. I feel much better at math, even when I suck.

Also look up introduction to mathematical thinking on coursera, that will help you out as well. Good luck.
