I read his book and it seemed to really lack a critical perspective, temperance and sounds like it was written to trick normies into believing he’s almost cured aging so... I’d say he’s very likely a grifter. Most actually intelligent non-fiction books really know how to seperate scientific evidence from fun speculation and make sure to address when they are just conjecturing

Then again the guy looks pretty young so maybe he’s onto something

if he doesn't sell something like a wonder cure but only tells his current scientific results publicly, for everyone to make what they want, he's hardly a grifter. you don't have to buy his book to know what he's doing and what he's recommending. you don't have to buy a syringe of mystery fluid that is supposed to do what he says. he's also not that much of a media figure. i think he's legit in his principle approach of biochemical analysis, if his results are legit or not is another thing entirely. and he does look young for his age. if he's truly a grifter, he fucking sucks at it.

from a general perspective, the fact that having more of a functional micronutrient leads to better health outcomes is very nearly common sense. his academic contribution is explicitly identifying where and how, impressive research in it's own right but not groundbreaking, except for people who don't have that common sense. he's become a source of authority that can convince mouthbreathers that they should be paying attention to niche micronutrients and he's definitely taking advantage of the marketing opportunity for as much as it's worth.

i remember he said on JRE that he takes statins for the health benefits. kind of sus. a funny mix of genuine insight and the clear need to touch grass.

His scientific results are rat studies and the way he sells his miracle cure theory makes it seem like he’s not only close to extending lifespan but during aging, meanwhile one of the compounds he shilled through the whole book since it’s publication has gone through a bunch of human studies and the results are pretty miserable, definitely seems like something in his grand theory was wrong if he was so mistaken about resveratrol

but still i don't think he's getting too much out of it, and in the worst case scenario he's analyzing biochemical pathways, which is kinda legit on its own due to its potential complexity. i still don't think he's that much of a grifter, i mean he has a book and that's kinda it, a real grifter seeks and gets constant media attention, founds one firm after another, shills his shit on governmental levels for absurd amounts of funding then uses the wealth of his company to liquidate stocks and so on.
so even if he's wrong on what he does, there is at least SOME scientific work being done, and we don't know if anything can build on what he and his team did. could be mundane stuff, could be more.
idk. i'm pretty indifferent about the guy. but i could also be misinformed and he made a fortune selling his books or whatever. i wouldn't buy it.

He used the hype of resveratrol to sell his lab for 700 million dollars, the company tried to sue him because it didnt work in humans but he won the case on a technicality that it works "outside" of humans. I believe it was called in vitro
