observation doesn't mean conscious human looking at the experiment, It means putting a particle detector in the way. think of it like doing the double slit normally, but one of the slits is changing the light from red to blue on the waay through. If you interact with the particles, their coherence is destroyed and they no longer refract or diffract or whatever you'd like to say.

That's not retrocausality. Photon goes through both slits in superposition, that's settled history you can't change. What you can change is to observe it from different angles and thus have different observations. But a change of your point of view doesn't change the past.
