>>14414485>>14414490Smart people suffer from what could be called "Ivory Tower Syndrome." They spend too much of their time (especially the academics) in theorizing and analyzing other smart people's theories. In other words, they spend their time in mental realms that only have weak connections to reality. A roofer has a strong connection to reality. He thinks about how to tear off a roof and replace it. If he fucks up, it's obvious: the roof leaks. That's a strong connection to reality.
What this really means is that smart people's thoughts aren't CORRECTED by their interactions with reality. Reality doesn't prove them wrong because of the lack regular connection.
The result of this, combined with the fact that smart people aren't perfect, is that even subtle errors in thinking can have profound effects as their conceptual framework on a given topic evolves. This happens in the individual and it happens in entire fields of academics.
The real problem then emerges when the products of this I.T.S. metastasize into realms of political power and attempt to force destructive Ivory Tower ideas into the real world, where they simply don't fit.
