I think people vastly overestimate just how alien something can possibly be to any intelligence that inhibit the same universe sharing the very same physics as us.
To have any sort of hope to intercept it they are the bare minimum as advanced as we are when it comes to spaceflight. But likely magnitudes more advanced since they somehow detected it in the first place.
