Can someone explain what the hell it means that they've found 84 million stars but around 5000 exoplanets?
That would mean that they've found 0.000059 planets for every star they've found.
What am I not getting here?

exoplanets are not usually seen directly. they are detected by a miniscule change in the starlights brightness when they pass in front of it.
if the exoplanet is not big enough, not in the correct orbital plane or you're not looking at the right time, you won't see anything.

You can't see an exoplanet at all, they have to be inferred from careful study of a star while stars on the other hand are literally lights in the dark, you can't help but to see them.
It's like how you have probably seen bout a million cars but you may have only seen maybe 8 sparkplugs in your life and then concluding that cars don't have sparkplugs.

Planets are small. You can fit millions of Earth in our Sun. So thats to be expected. 84 mil : 5000 planets is nice because we can also analyze the stars for blips for signs of planets. If we have a ratio like Sun: Earth, it should be 5 billion : 5000 planets.

Compare the ammount of planets to ammount of stars you can see with your naked eye. My guess is the proportion will be the same.
