Suppose we dug a canal bringing oceanwater straight into the middle of the desert. What would happen? Would there be increased rainwater resulting in desert greening? Would the temperature go down? Would desalination plants in this region make inhabiting them more feasible?

Yes it would increase moisture and rain. But it doesnt matter if the desert is let as desert. Nothing is lost from the desert continuing to be desert. Its a bad investment, a lot of work and money over some rain with minimal economic impact

Its honestly quite disturbing how many bots there are shitting up threads. I have seen some people over on /pol testing for them, by including images with difficult to OCR text stating this is a check for bots, if you are human include random word X in your post, and then making normal (well for /pol) statements; suddenly you get a lot of stupid posts that ignore the picture. Sad that they have such obvious bots messing with other parts of the site too now.
