I like uniqueness theorems, like: the determinant is the unique alternating multilinear form form the columns of a matrix to a scalar that maps the identity matrix to 1. My introduction to linear algebra involved computing determinants by cofactor expansion, and it was the most ugly and confusing "definition" ever, then I get to this and determinants feel a lot more natural from an abstract perspective.
