Where do I find an in-depth explanation of how evolution really works? Specifically I'm curious about things like how much generations are needed for a trait to become stable, what are the probabilities involved and how are quantified, how bad characteristics that don't compromise reproduction are filtered out and how good ones are not lost, how the environment influences genetics. It cannot be just about randomness and natural selection to genetically explain evolution otherwise it would, intuitively, take too much generations for the selection factors to be stable in the meanwhile. I'm curious about how is explained and justified that changes happen relatively quickly.
