>>14401295Actual molecular bonding is more complex than simple overlap. It's been a few years so i've not got the details off the top of my head, but "orbital overlap" is dated. In actuality the orbitals combine based on their lines and kinds of symmetry to form a complex energy level diagram.
The simplest example i can give is methane: You'd expect four bonds of equal energy, but there is in fact a single bond with a different energy level, which i believe is shown by an electron excitation analysis of some kind.
