The modern writers keep re-writing and retroactively altering the story to the point of blandness and all uniqueness is giving way to "OOooo what if instead it was like this generic space-fantasy trope?"
The age of sigmar just completely fucked over all uniqueness about the fantasy world and just literally made it "exact copy of 40k, but switch out swords instead of guns". I fucking hated the change so much.
It's like what happened with starcraft lore, but worse. OG starcraft lore was the shit. They then just copied the entire warcraft lore and switched it out with starcraft.
The new generation of fantasy writers are the most generic, boring, tropey, unimaginative people who can't create anything new for a damn, but just instead smooths out and generalizes and retcons all the old amazing stories into the literal exact same story. It's heartbreaking.
