What if I told you I only have a BS and the reason I didnt go further is becauseI dont fit in academia. After a couple internships even after my BS I saw that I truly dont belong there and that working along side academics makes me suicidal
- Still pretty astonishing I cam up with that idea (that I let confirm some DevBio Profs and PostDocs to be legit back in the internship days)
- I am now a developer so I can pay my bills and stop being a bum but cant stop thinking about this experiment
- I guess I will have to become what I never wanted to, a "Biohacker" and do experiments in my apartment. I will start by establishing slime moulds (picrel) as a model for vascular biology. Some seem to be easy to culture at home, once you get hold of a culture. At first I have to invest a type of imaging that lets me quantitatively survey the morphology. Thinking about a light ring (like fo rselfies) that I hack so it eluminates only one LED that goes around in a circle. Then synchronyse every change to the next LED with the shutter speed of my DSLR that will take a picture of the slime mould from above. Then some in silico image processing to get to ta nice high res depiction of the morphology (of the network).
- anyways if you thought I am a scietist working in a lab I am not. It is impossible for me to put forth those ideas seriously and not get sacked because as a non-PI/Prof youre just labor force and should shut the fuck up and pipet.
- Besides the slime mould I should make sure to get some fuck-you-money to be able to try this (or a more advanced version of it) out for real in a decade or so. Since I am good at coding I maybe should become stakeholder/core dev or entrepreneur in the crypto space. I really dont care about crypto but I need the money...
