Going to a top uni? Do maths, physics, compsci or straight engineering at worst. All the options to go into all the mathematical, computational and simulational fields where all the real money is! You could still do this out of a top Chem Eng course too.
Going to a good uni, engineering is a good choice in general but dont specialise too soon, find what you like.
Going to a decent to meh uni, petroleum engineering is probably a good choice, perhaps worse than only civil in terms of quality of teaching, but still probably gonna give you the best career options overall.
Also, why do petroleum when you can do chemical and avoid overspecialising?
