In February, 2021, Dr. Hugo Zeberg and Svante Paabo published a paper (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33593941/) that asserts that a specific part of our genes, inherited by us today via Neanderthals, is associated with protection against COVID-19. Then, almost exactly a year later, in February of this year, the same Dr. Hugo Zeberg published another paper (http://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2116435119) that asserts that a specific part of our genes, also inherited by us today via Neanderthals, is associated with major risk of catching severe COVID-19. How does this happen? Like is this seriously something that happens often in research? Just being completely wrong and that being okay and you staying employed?? If I do bad at my job, I get fired. How do researchers get away with just being completely incorrect? What do these guys even do???
