Why do people talk about dark matter and MOND like you have to choose a side?
Is there anything preventing them from coexisting?

MOND model is correct, but the career of a few thousand physicists are put at risk due to MOND which is why they still hold onto dark matter, it's sad.

Because MOND and General Relavity are opposites, and people that are pro-dark matter is people that already accepts General Relavity as the correct theory of gravity, and all it requires is certain updates/modifications to fit the dark matter hypothesis

Basically, the physics need some adjustments, however, the adjustments aren’t large enough to change the bottom line
Hence they coexist
They are competing theories, but the truth is a mix

Dark Matter is the label for a set of observations we can't currently explain. MOND ties to explain those observations by changing our existing laws of physics. The other more popular explanation is a new type of particle(s) confusing described as / named dark matter. Physicists suck at naming.

In other words, if it isn't shining intensely, astronomers have no idea what the fuck is actually out there.

nope. it's the laws of orbital dynamics that formed the basis of the prediction there is an oort cloud in the first place.

Even if black matter exists that doesn’t mean that our physics don’t have to be changed
We know our laws work well on solar system scales, but on larger scales? Well, there is room for debate
I think it is naive to think we have figured it out already
